Alexander Stubb on Greenland: the good, the bad or the ugly?

As Europe looks toward 2050, its future power, security, and global influence will be defined less by traditional metrics and more by its mastery of emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence, cyber defence, space-based intelligence, next-generation networks, quantum technologies, and green energy systems are no longer neutral tools of progress—they are instruments of geopolitical leverage.

The dialogue will explore how Europe’s future toward 2050 will be shaped by strategic leadership in emerging technologies, including cyber defence, security technologies, green energy, quantum computing, and next-generation networks. Particular attention will be given to the role of technologically advanced countries such as Finland as innovation hubs, to the alignment of EU–NATO–Nordic cooperation, and to technology as a tool of diplomacy—setting standards, building trusted infrastructure, and forming durable “techno-alliances.”

The discussion aims to highlight how technological capability increasingly underpins strategic autonomy, resilience, and global influence, and how public– private cooperation can strengthen Europe’s security and competitiveness in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
